Chail and Kufri are the small Himalayan hill resorts. They are situated at the height of 2250 meter from the Sutlej valley. The hill station is surrounded by lush green scented forest offering a beautiful and exotic view to the place. The place is a travelers paradise-deep gorges, lush green valleys, lofty snow peaks, fast flowing rivers, flower bedecked meadows, enchanting mountain lakes, beautiful temples and monasteries steeped in time. This hill station has many things to explore ranging from sightseeing, trekking, mountaineering, fishing, para-gliding, skiing, ice skating and golf. This hill station is surrounded by some interesting and beautiful tourist attractions that make up its excursions. Places to See in Chail and Kufri:

  1. Palace hotel, Chail: This palace of Chail came in to being when Bhupinder Singh, Maharaja of Patiala was banished from Shimla, after a dalliance with the commander in chief's daughter in the late 19th century. The pretty cottages of the complex once accommodated the ADCs and guests of the royal party but it is now part of a charming holiday resort. This palace has amazing walks through dense pine forests which are the home of barking deer, wild boar, pheasant and variety of dogs.
  2. Chail Sanctuary, Chail: It is spread in an area of more than 110 sq. Kms. at the foothills of Himalayas. The sanctuary was notified on 21st March 1976 near Chail town in district Shimla. The main attraction of the sanctuary apart from its animals and birds is the Chir Pheasant breeding farm.
  3. Mashru Peak, Kufri: It is the highest peak in the Kufri. You can hike through thick forest around Kufri to the Maharu peak.
  4. Cricket Ground, Chail: It is the highest cricket ground in the world and is also used as polo ground. It is surrounded by gigantic deodar. It was built in 1893 and is located at the height of 2144 m.
  5. Himalayan Nature Park, Kufri: It is about 18 Km form Shimla and has a collection of animals and birds found only in Himachal Pradesh. It is at an altitude of 2600 m above the sea level. This place is covered with snow from late December to March. This park provides natural habitat for Himalayan animals such as black bear, musk deer, bharal, Tibetan wolf, sambhar, ghoral, white crested kaleej, cheer pheasant and barking deer.
  6. Sidh Baba Ka Mandir, Chail: Maharaja Bhupinder Singh had originally planned this to be the iste of his palace and had even started construction, but it is said that, a 'Sidh' saintly person appeared in the Maharaja's dream and affirmed that this was the place where he meditated. Therefore, Bhupinder Singh shifted his site and built a temple on that place.
