Palace hotel is a small but delightful hill resort which is situated at an altitude of 2250 m in Chail. It is one of the major attractions of Chail which was constructed by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala in 1981 as his residence. This hotel is a true reflection of the Maharaja's flamboyant personality. It is set in approximately 75 acres of land and has a truly regal setting with spectacular views. The hotel is settled so precariously on the hilltop that it seems to float in the clouds. Pine tress and Deodar tress around the hotel seem to add a natural trimming. This hotel still holds the charm and glory of the former days. Now this palace is under the authority of the Himachal Development Corporation. The sprawling Palace hotel overlooks some of the regal Himalayan peaks.

History of Palace Hotel:

It is believed that Bhupinder Singh was expelled from the summer capital of British, Shimla after his dastardly behavior with the daughter of Lord Kitchener, the then governor general of British India. The Indian prince was angry at this and decided to build his own summer capital, which would be better than Shimla. At that time this small piece of paradise came to his notice and he built a city as per his requirements. It is this palace, which today used as a hotel and the prime highlight of Chail. In 1972, this palace hotel was taken over for restoration by the Himachal Development Corporation.
