Dal Lake Location:

It is located at a height of 1775 m above sea level and comes under the region of Kangra district, which is 11 Km away from Dharamshala. It lies amidst hills and majestic fir trees. It is a small brownish lake. Though the lake is small in area but it has a charm of its own solely due to its surrounding forest and hills. Dal Lake is renowned for its scenic beauty and the cool ambience. It is a perfect base camp for trekkers in Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj. On the bank of Dal Lake a renowned Lord Shiva temple is located, which is believed to be very sacred.

Fest At Dal Lake:

Every year during the month of September, a vast number of visitors gather to the Dal Lake to attain famous festival celebrated to mark the presence of Lord Shiva. This festival also witnesses participation from scores of people from the Gaddi tribe. The banks of the Dal Lake become lively by a fest, which is attended by a large number of the Gaddi tribe and other tourists in the month of September every year. People from different parts of the world visit Dharamshala on the fest to take a holy dip in this lake. It is believed that taking a holy dip in the lake will remove all miseries. It is a common belief that the dip in the lake will bring blesses of Lord Shiva.

The area around the Dal Lake is a natural dreamland. Dal Lake falls on the road to Naddi, which is one of the finest places in Dharamshala. Another road branches off from Dal lake road to strawberry hills are a magnificent place to explore around Dal Lake.
