Kovalam has four beaches, namely: Ashok beach, Lighthouse beach, Samudra beach and Eve's beach and all of them are located very close to each other.
Shanghumugham Beach is popular beach of Trivandrum: This is a popular beach located at about 8 kms from the city close to the Trivandrum airport. The beach is known for its beautiful sunsets and the festive look it wears during the local festivals. There are several other places of interest here like a restaurant built in the shape of a starfish, a 35 meters long sculpture of a mermaid (matsya kanyaka)and an indoor recreation club which attract the tourists.
Varkala Beach is a famous tourist destination of Trivandrum: This is located 41 Kms from Trivandrum and is an important pilgrimage centre for Hindus. The mineral springs near the beach are very famous and are said to have medicinal properties. The Sree Janardhana Swamy Temple is another important place to visit here.
