The climate of Agartala is influenced by monsoon and is humid subtropical. It has high levels of precipitation almost throughout the year. Historical Past of Agartala

At Rangamati (Udaipur, South Tripura) by the bank of the River Gomti was the ancient capital of the then Princely State of Tripura. Maharaja Krishna Kishore Manikya (1830-1849) shifted it to today's old Agartala (Khayerpur) by the bank of the River Haora in the year 1760 A.D. It was then named as 'Haveli'. Frequent invasion of the Kuki's and to keep effortless communication with Bengal under the British rule, the Maharaja Krishna Kishore Manikya started the process of shifting the Capital in the year 1849 A.D from Old Haveli to New Haveli which is an important tourist site of Agartala till date.

Planned City of Agartala

The founder of the planned city of Agartala is Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya Bahadur. The complete town area was re-organized in terms of infrastructure. It was restructured with a market building and strong roads.
