Alwar





Alwar is a beautiful place in the state of Rajasthan. It is very famous for its beautiful palaces, jungles and heritage hotels that make the place worth visiting. Alwar city is the administrative headquarters of Alwar district. It is located in the state of Rajasthan at about 160 kms from Delhi and 150 kms from Jaipur. Alwar was founded in the 18th century by a Rajput Pratap Singh of Kachwaha lineage. It has a lot of beautiful architecture with Muslim and Rajput influence. It was also called as Ulwar in olden days.

Where is Alwar Located?

In the past, the place Alwar was the capital of the princely state of Alwar wherein it was called 'Ulwar' during the British rule in India. In 1770, Pratap Singh, a Rajput of the Kachwaha lineage founded the princely state of Alwar wherein legacy says that his son did the work of aiding the Britishers in opposition to the Marathas.

How to Reach Alwar?

Alwar city is well-connected to various other adjacent cities like New Delhi and Jaipur as frequent flights are easily accessible. What to see in Alwar?

The curved roofs and pavilions are simply superb and there is exquisite delicate embroidered work on the windows. The museum spreads over three halls and houses a splendid collection of manuscripts that include copies of Babur Nama and Persian Poet Gulistan.

Just behind the city palace lies an artificial lake Sagar. It belongs to the 18th century and was built by Maharaja Vinay Singh.

After Jaipur and Jodhpur, Alwar is the third most heavily populated city of Rajasthan. The city is situated approximately 160kms to the south of the Indian capital, New Delhi.
