Alwar is a great city and is considered as the center of many historical monuments and great tourist spots. There are many places that you should not forget to visit when you are at Alwar. One such place is Moosi Maharani Chattri. Moosi Maharani Chattri (centopath) is one of the famous tourist spots in Alwar, Rajasthan. Chatris are actually elevated dome shaped structures or pavilions. These are an element in the Indian Architecture or funerary sites. These are the basic elements of Hindu as well as the Mughal architecture. The term Chatri literally means canopy or umbrella.

This tourist spot is located outside the city palace in Alwar which is built by Vinay Singh. This historical monument was built after the death of Maharaja Bakhtawar Singh and his queen, Rani Moosi who opted for satti, where she burnt herself on her husbands funeral pyre.

This monument is a great example of historical architecture. The upper body of the monument is made of marble stones and the roofs are round in shape with striking bends. The structure consists of ornamented interiors along with wall paintings which are not in very great shape due to improper maintenance. Other than architecture, what more you will appreciate is that the chhatri is placed under the location full of lush foliage and thriving flowers.

The monument is double storied which stands on the platform of red sandstones that are pillared. The upper part of the storey is made of marbles with some unusually rounded roofs and splendid arches. The interior is worth appreciating as it has some carvings. However, most of the carvings are not visible anymore due to less maintenance. Sometimes you can see peacocks as well if you are lucky. You will also get a chance to see other birds flying around the place.

There is a huge water kund located near the chhatri. This kund was also made by Vinay singh in 1815. The design is worth watching. It is lined with steps on all three sides like a step well. This kund is said to be one example of tanks serving as a community center which is made under the act of great generosity.

As said, the interiors are designed with great carving which is not much visible. There are also many colorful wall paintings that highlight the carvings. This place is a must visit due to its great architecture work and interior design.

The Moosi Maharani Chattri is a very impressive structure built by Vinay Singh. It is situated on the banks of a beautiful lake Sagar. This is dedicated to Bakthawar Singh's mistress Rani Moosi, who performed sati here. The centopath is a reflection of Indo-Islamic style of architecture. The upper portion of the structure is made up of marble with columned pavilions and domed arches with exquisite floral tracery. The lower portion is made up of pillared red sandstone. The ceiling is adorned with court scenes and mythological scenes.

All these scenes are in faded gold leaf paintings and beautiful sculptures adorn the ceiling. The memorial is rated as one of the finest and best of its kind. The Sagar Lake is picturesque with a concrete catchment. The pattern of stairs and tiny kiosks make perfect symmetry.

This is a double storied centopath and the upper storey has some splendid arches and unusually rounded roofs. The interiors have some great frescos and you can see peacocks around the place.

There is a huge water tank created by Vinay Singh in 1815. The tank is lined with steps on three sides like a step well. There are several temples on the bank of this tank.
