What to see in Alwar

Alwar fort : The fort is at approximately at a height of 600 meters above the Alwar city. Its walls spans across an area of around 5 kms that stretches from north to south and from east to west, the walls could be seen at a stretch of about 1.6 kilometers. Moreover, you can see many towers of both large and small size and holes for musketry places on all sides together with six gates near the regular entrances.

Alwar fort has a 6.6 km long embankment surrounding this fort. There are 51 small and 15 large towers and a lot of gates to this fort.

Vijay Mandir Palace : Vijay Mandir Palace is very grand and royal and offers you a look into the lavish Rajputana living style.

Purjan Vihar : Purjan Vihar is the most beautiful garden laid out by Raja Shiv Dan Singhji. The most interesting part of the layout is that the scorching sun cannot dry these gardens at any point of time.

Rani Moosi Chhatri : Rani Moosi Chhatri was built in the memory of the wife of Maharaja Bakhtawar Singh. The chhatri is a cenotaph that was constructed in Indo-Islamic style. It is believed that it took around nine years to complete the double storied structure that consists of arches, domes, pillars and pavilions. It is situated on the banks of Sagar Lake.

City Palace : Built in 1793, the City Palace in Alwar is one of the best places to see that displays styles of Rajput and Mughal Architecture. You can witness the beautifully erected massive gates, the marble pavilions that stand on the base of lotus shaped flowers. Besides this, you can take delight in the beautiful courtyard that lies in the centre and a massive tank filled with water. Today, this structure is known for the various government offices that have taken shelter therein.

Government Museum : Government Museum is basically a part of the City Palace Complex that lies on the topmost floor. You can see a good collection of articles that belong to Alwar's royal family. Apart from this, you can also find some of the great exhibits and manuscripts of Gulistan, Shahnama and that of Mughal Emperor Babur.

Jaisamand Lake : Jaisamand Lake, which is popular as world's second biggest artificial lake, is also one of the major places of tourist attractions in Alwar. Built in 1910 by Maharaja Jai Singh, the lake attracts large number of tourists.
