PINDARI GLACIER

Pindari glacier is one of the most significant glaciers situated near Amarnath. The Pindari glacier falls in the Bageshwar district of the Kumaon Himalayas. Located in Pindar Valley 79 degrees to 80 degrees longitudes East and 30 degrees North latitudes, this glacier has a total area of 339.39 sq km. The Pindari glacier has a total length of 5 Km. It is 6m high and 2.5 m wide.

The pindari glacier is easily accessible and offers an enchanting beautiful sight. Visiting Pindari glacier and trekking in the region gives a breathtaking experience to the trekker. Since the glacier lies between the Nandakot peak and the Nanda Devi peak, the glacier presents an exhilarating view to the visitor or the trekker. Pindari glacier is the origin of Pindari River which drains the valley. The glacier is full of granite and sedimentary rocks. Places such as Phurkia and Khati fall enroute to Pindari. Glacier provides ample sightseeing to the trekkers. There are a number of waterfalls, roll cliffs and hanging valleys in the region which are worth seeing. The trek to Pindari glacier is not very difficult and easily accessible. One has to reach to Almora, Kathgodam or Bageshwar to begin the trekking. From their, one has to go to Saung by road and from Saung there is a journey of 45 Km to reach to Pindari Glacier.

A trip to Pindari glacier provides a scenic view of snowy ranges, waterfalls, Himalayan flora and fauna which is a reward to any trekker.

GANGOTRI GLACIER

Gangotri Glacier is one of the well known glaciers in India, situated in Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarkashi district. The origin of the glacier is in the Chaukhamba range of Himalayas. An interesting fact about the Gangotri Glacier is that it is not a glacier which is situated in a single valley. This glacier combines several other glaciers in it and lies within an impressive area of 28 km. Gaumukh is the endpoint of this glacier. Trekkers can have an easy access to the glacier because it is connected to the Gangotri Temple which in turn is easily be reached by road. There is a 17 km long road which runs alongside Bhagirathi River. The nearest Airport is at Jolly Grant, Dehradun. Rishikesh is the nearest railway station. Gangotri is a traditional Hindu pilgrimage spot but the retreat of Gangotri Glacier in recent times has caused some concerns.

KOLAHOI GLACIER

Kolahoi glacier is situated at Anantnag District of Jammu & Kashmir. The trekking route from Pahalgam to the Kolahoi glacier is very well known. The twin peaks site on the glacier is its main attraction which is at 17,827 ft. The glacier forms the head of the Lidder Valley. The trekking could begin from Pahalgam which provides an enchanting view of the Himalayas. Trekkers can visit Mount Kolahoi situated on the glacier and is a famous tourist point. Sarbal and Kolahoi can be easily reached by trekkers on the way to Sonamarg.
