Bhandardara is near about 185kms away from the financial capital of India - Mumbai. The nearest railway station to Bhandardara is Igatpuri. Mumbai is the nearest airport to the Bhandardara where almost all the domestic flights as well as international flights come from all parts of India and world.

From the Mumbai one can choose to hire a private cab or the state transport bus. Well, it is very important to note that the state transport buses do not charge more than 16 Rs where as the private taxis will charge some thing around 300-400 Rs. It takes approximately one hour to reach Bhandardara irrespective of the types of the service been availed.
There are many places to visit at the Bhandardara such as the Wilson Dam, Aurthur hill, Kalsubai, Ratnagad fort, and Amriteshwar temple. Wilson dam is one the gorgeous dam ever being made in 1910. Wilson dam is made on the Pravara River and it is 150 mts high above the sea level. It is one of the major attractions of tourist for all over the country. In addition, there is an Umbrella fall near the dam. Moreover, one can enjoy this falls in the rainy season when the level of the Water in the Lake is high. However, being a completely astonishing and stunning scenic spot, these falls are also used to generate the hydropower.
Bhandardara Lake is well known as Lake Aurthur hill. Aurthur Lake is formed by the dammed up waters of the river Pravara. Bhandardara Lake is one of the major tourist attractions. This lake is situated amidst in the dense green forest. Shri Agasti Rishi mediated here at this place continuously for years, so it has a religious importance too. In the year 1910, this lake was built. This lake serve as a reservoir for Wilson dam and it is also 34 km long.
Kalsubai is the highest peak of the Sahyadri range from the Bhandardara, which is also known as Mount Kalsubai. In the bygone era, the peak of Mount Kalsubai served as the watching tower. Kalsubai mount is ideal for trekking and so are the hills too which are near by. On the top of the mountain there is one well, it is said that the water of this well never goes down below 3 feet.
Shivaji Maharaj captured Ratnagad fort, and it was one of his most favorite forts. Shivaji Maharaj used to spend his leisure time here in the companionship of nature. The view from this fort is spectacular and breathtaking.
Amriteshwar temple is very ancient as well as old. This temple was made in around the 1100 A.D. The architecture style used in this temple is hemadpanti. Till today, this temple stands proudly.

By Air: the nearest airport to Bhandardara is Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai. It is near about 185 km from Bhandardara. Mumbai is well connected to all the major cities of India as well as to many cities of abroad.
By Train: The nearest railway station to Bhandardara is Igatpuri. It is nearly 35 km from Bhandardara.
By Bus: Maharahstra State Road Transport bus services are available up to the down hill of Bhandardara. Most of the major cities in the state including Mumbai are well connected to Bhandardara by Bus.
Overall, Bhandardara is a nice hill station with all the scenic beauties of nature but still it is not developed properly like other hill station like Lonavla and Mahabaleshwar. However, but you have a new and innovative experience after visiting Bhandardara.
