Gajner is located in the northwest part of Rajasthan, 32 kms away from Bikaner. Gajner wild life sanctuary is situated in the middle of lush green trees. Hills and a serene lake surround the sanctuary. This was an important hunting ground of the King of Bikaner. The sanctuary includes Gajner Palace and Gajner Lake.
The palace is built in pink sandstone and the Gajner Lake is a beautiful spot. the natural beauty of Gajner is simply mesmerizing. A number of birds like imperial goose migrate here during winter. The animal population includes neelgais, waterfowls, chinkara and the imperial sand grouse. You can spot large herds of deer's grazing freely and they visit the lake to quench their thirst.
This place was developed as a shooting ground for the royalty as it was a sport limited to the feudal chiefs and the maharajas. There was annual sand grouse shooting and the palace served as a resort. Many royal people have visited this place and various dignitaries like the viceroys have been entertained here.
