The largest industrial complex in India is known by the name of Neyveli. Chidambaram is a small municipal town situated at a distance of near about two hundred and thirty five kms towards the south Chennai.

Neyveli is a place, which is noted for its mining of lignite. This lignite is used for the thermal power generation, development of fertilizers and ceramic wares.

Neyveli is located at a distance of near about 55 kms towards southwest of Cuddalore. It is located in the South Arcot district of Tamil Nadu state, India. However, the constructions of the irrigation wells were done in this area of Neyveli. During that period, the lignite deposit was noticed at the shallow depth in the Neyveli region.

After the complete geological investigation, lignite was found in an area which is about 260sq.km. This town contained reserves of near about 2100 millions tones of Lignite. Moreover, Neyveli is famous for the Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd. In India, Neyveli Lignite Corporation ltd is one of the biggest lignite mines. Neyveli town is the home of Neyveli Lignite Corporation. Maximum percentage of the thermal electricity is generated in Tamil Nadu comes from the power plants of Neyveli.

Currently, many industries are being set up in Chennai. All the industries in and around Chennai, makes the use of power from the Neyveli. In the development of the new era, mining lignite at Neyveli had a great impact on the development of the Neyveli area. Near about 20,000 people have been provided with employment due to the Neyveli Lignite Corporation. The world's largest Metal statue of Lord Shiva as Nataraja is located at Neyveli.
