Neyveli is located at a distance of near about 55 kms towards southwest of Cuddalore. It is located in the South Arcot district of Tamil Nadu state, India. However, the constructions of the irrigation wells were done in this area of Neyveli. During that period, the lignite deposit was noticed at the shallow depth in the Neyveli region.
After the complete geological investigation, lignite was found in an area which is about 260sq.km. This town contained reserves of near about 2100 millions tones of Lignite. Moreover, Neyveli is famous for the Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd. In India, Neyveli Lignite Corporation ltd is one of the biggest lignite mines. Neyveli town is the home of Neyveli Lignite Corporation. Maximum percentage of the thermal electricity is generated in Tamil Nadu comes from the power plants of Neyveli.
