Sliappathikara Art Gallery

Sliappathikara Art Gallery is a beautiful and seven tired building which is of great sculptural value. The Magara Thoranavayil is located at the entrance of the Art Gallery. It imparts an attractive and beautiful pose to the whole structure. The height of art gallery is near about 221/2 inch. However, this gallery was designed in the pattern of Magara Thorana Vayil. Scenes from the Sillappathikaram give a lively shape in stones on the walls of Art Gallery.

Town Gateway

Town Gateway was built in the year 1792 in a Danish Architectural style. The design of town is typical of the gateways built in the Europe during the period of renaissance.

Zion Church

In the year 1707, Dutch settlers built the Zion Church. Britishers renovated the church again in the year 1782-84. Till date the church is in a good condition and the Dutch architectural design is a thing to be appreciated one and all.

Danish Fort

In the 1620 AD, the Danish Fort was built. In the present time also, Danish fort is known as the masterpiece of the Danish architecture in India. Until now, the fort is in the perfect condition and most of the decoration and carving is still prominent. This Danish fort is now under the control of TamilNadu Archaeological Department. Moreover, it also houses an archaeological museum.

Masilamani Nathar Koil

Maravarma Kulasekara Pandiyan erected Masilamani Nathar Koil temple in the 1305. The temple exhibits outstanding architectural skills. The front portion of the Masilamani Nathar Koil has been partly damaged because of sea erosion but still it is worth watching. Long back, the religious activities in this ancient temple had stopped.

Danish Governor Bungalow

Danish Governor Bungalow gets its name since there it was the residence of the Danish Governor. This bungalow was built in the year 1784. This is the biggest building in the Poonpuhar. This building houses the office of the Tamil Nadu Tourist Department.
