Coonoor is a very quiet Hill station in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is an hour's drive from Ooty and can be reached by a delightful train journey by the Toy train. Coonoor nestles in the laps of the nilgiri hills. It is a delightful town with exquisite scenery all around. There is much to see and experience in these grassy meadows and beautiful fields of sunflower and marigold. The rhododendrons growing wild around the steep hills and valleys add to the natural beauty of the place. The green velvety carpets of the tea plantations in the Nilgiri hills take us to a different world altogether. Coonoor has s breath taking view of the Coimbatore plains and it a paradise for avid trekkers and naturalists with the vast stretches of undisturbed rare shoals forests.

The weather is pleasant and cool all round the year. The Dodabetta range protects the area from any unwanted and unpleasant mountains by blocking them. Due to this the place is practically very excellent compared to Ooty and mettupalayam. There are many scenic areas around Coonoor.

Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at an elevation of 1000 meters. There is a variety of habitats in the sanctuary. There are the tropical evergreen forests, deciduous forests, moist teak forests, Dry teak forests, Swamps and the secondary grasslands. There is a lot of variety in the wild life found here. There are elephants, Tigers, gaurs, spotted deers, sambar, barking deers, wild boars, rabbits, porcupines, etc. the avifauna is varied with hornbills, fairy blue birds, miniviets, jungle fouls, etc. the reptiles found are the different species of snakes, pythons, monitor lizards, flying lizards, etc. Many tourists come here to see the wildlife and for bird watching.

Dolphins Nose is a unique rock of tremendous proportions. It juts out from the face of the hillside in formation and as its name suggests. This place commands excellent views of the magnificent St. Catherines Falls with their stream continuing several hundred feet below. The trek to this place is very interesting and you should go for it.

Ooty or Udhagamandalam as it is now popularly known is an hour's drive from Coonoor. The mornings here are misty and the evenings mild. This is a perfect get away from a busy and stressed life. The picturesque beauty of this place lies in the peaceful ranges surrounded by the misty blue haze. The place is delightful to be because of its salubrious climate and scenic beauty.

Kattery Falls are situated 5 kms from Coonoor. They are on the Kendala road and the views of the falls are magnificent. The falls are one of the highest falls in the Nilgiri hills. Laws falls are on the Coonoor Mettupalayam road and are one of the prettiest spots.

Lady Canning's seat is 3 kms from the main road. It is named after Lady Charlotte canning, wife of Lord Canning. Viceroy Canning loved to sit here and paint the wonderful scenery. Lambs Rock drops several hundred feet and is a very popular picnic spot among the tourists.
