Deshnok is a fascinating place to visit and the temple of Deshnok is a great attraction. This temple is dedicated to Karni Mata and the temple is a wonder as it houses thousands of rats who are given a royal treatment. The temple is situated about 30 kms from Bikaner and attracts tourists from everywhere. Other important features of the temple are the silver doors with gold domes. The main gate of the temple is beautifully carved and the sanctum houses the image of goddess. It is amazing to see the holy rats all around the place. This is the only place where the rats are free and are worshipped.

What to see in Deshnok

Apart from the Karni Mata mandir you can visit Sri Nehri Ji, a place where Karni Mata used to meditate. There is an ever green tree which is situated 2 kms from Deshnok and it is believed to be 591 years old. Legend goes that, Karni Mata stuck a stick and sprinkled it with some curd and from it grew this holy tree. It has been worshipped for centuries and there is also a statue of Karni Mata installed below this tree.

There is a Karni Mata museum which is situated opposite to the temple of Karni Mata. The hall is very big and has beautiful marble flooring. Huge paintings adorn the walls of the museum and there are antique paintings that bring to life the incidents from the life of Karni Mata.

You can visit Bikaner, which is an ancient fortified town situated 30 kms away and explore it. It is a good place for shopping typical Rajasthani items. You can buy some thing as gifts for friends back home.
