Species of Birds:

The avifauna consists of a combination of Griffon vulture, Monal, Snow cock, Koklas, Blue rock pigeon, Kashmir roller, European hoopoe and Jungle crow. The perching of birds on the twigs of green trees and the chirping reverberate the chords of peace and unity of humanity amidst the politically driven state of Kashmir.

Vegetation in the Gulmarg Biosphere Reserve:

The ground on which the animals show their fashionable and slender gait and the bushes and vegetation they feed on is a vital whole of the reserve. The reserve is blessed with the species of emerald green conifers comprising of- Cedrus Deodara, Pinus Griffithii, Abies Pindrow and Aesculus Indica. The facilitation of the growth of such exclusive species of vegetation makes it a home to the studies of forestry and environment. The air of the enveloping environment is purified with the conifers which release a maximum amount of oxygen into the air during day time. The geographical conglomeration of trees and vegetation wets the ground of the reserve releasing thin cascades onto the frozen waters of the region.

The best time to enjoy and experience the wonders of nature is from March to May for birds and from September to March for the devotees of animals.
