Why It is Famous:
Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is major wildlife stock, situated in Morigaon district of Assam, the northeastern state of India. Pobitora is mainly famous for its great Indian one horned Rhinoceros. Besides Rhinoceros the other animals are Asiatic buffalo, leopard, wild bear, civet cat etc.
Type of weather:
The climate is moderate and humid (up to 73% relative humidity) with most rain falling during the monsoon season (May-September). The mean maximum summer temperature is 34 deg.C and the mean minimum winter temperature is 9 deg.C.
The Landscape:
The land is mostly covered by dense and tall elephant grass. These large stretches of elephant grass are intermixed by small wetlands left behind by the receding floodwaters of the river Brahmaputra.
The Fauna:
Animals sighted while exploring the park are elephants, rhinos, swamp, golden langurs, deer, capped langurs, Assamese macaques, hoolock gibbons, smooth Indian otters, sloth bears, barking deer, hog deer, sambar and chitah.
The animal population of Pobitora is varied. Some of the more potentially hostile creatures are elephants, rhinos, wild buffaloes, leopards, clouded leopards and the incredibly beautiful and rare black.Panthers. Assam Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is also home to more than 2000 migratory birds and various reptiles.

How to reach Pobirora:
The nearest Airport to the wildlife sanctuary is Guwahati. Guwahati has a good public transport system. Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at Borjhar is about 70 km west of Pobitora, where air connectivity has improved considerably in the last couple of years and all major domestic airlines fly into Guwahati.
Railhead: Guwahati is well-connected to all the major cities of the country by rail. One can easily reach the park by bus or other vehicles from the Guwahati railhead.
Road Transport: Guwahati can be accessed by road from any part of Assam. Once in Guwahati, you can easily reach the park by any means of road transport. Government agency - ASTC (Assam State Transport Corporation) and many private operators provide a considerably good city-bus system. Two nodal points, Adabari and Paltan Bazaar, provide bus services to some of the neighbouring areas of Pobitora.
