There are palaces, forts, ancient temples and museums to explore which not only have interesting legends behind them, but are indispensable part of Indian history.
The first in prominence comes definitely the Gwalior Fort. An identity of the city itself, the fort is reputed as one of the invincible forts of India.
The Man Mandir Palace was built by Raja Man Singh between the periods 1486 and 1517. The former glory does not exist but are still found in some places in the wall tiles and huge music halls.
A symbol of love is the Gujari Mahal built by Raja Man Singh Tomar and dedicated to his beloved Gujar Queen, Mrignayani. Time has left its marks on the exterior but has failed to ruin the interior beauty. The interiors of the Gujari Mahal are now turned into an Archaeological Museum to preserve the priceless antiques.
Another important historical monument worth a visit is the Jai Vilas Palace and Museum. The Jai Vilas Palace is designed in the form of the Palace of Versailles in France. Some 25 rooms have been demarcated to form the Jivaji Rao Scindia Museum.
Other places worthy of visit in Gwalior is the Gurudwara Data Bandhi Chhod dedicated to the 6th Sikh Guru, Guru Hargobind Saheb, Sun Temple, Gopachal Parvat and Sarod Ghar.
