Anamudi Shola National Park is one of the few national parks in Kerala which have been declared protected areas by the Government of Kerala very recently. Situated in the biggest district of Kerala, Anamudi National Park was declared a protected area by the draft notification released on Nov 21, 2003. The new national park is considered to be covering an area of 7.5 square kilometers. Idukki is the most beautiful of all the districts of Kerala. Anamudi Shola National Park falls in this green district, along the Western Ghats.

Anamudi Shola National Park is a part of the Marayoor village in the Devikulam Taluk situated in the Idukki district of Kerala. Covering a total area of 7.5 square kilometers, Anamudi Shola National Park covers the forest area of Idivara Shola Reserve, Mannavan Shola Reserve and Pullardi Shola Reserve.

Currently Anamudi Shola National Park is being administered under the Kerala Department of Forests and Wildlife. This Kerala Department of Forests and Wildlife is a division of the Munnar Wildlife. The government of Kerala had declared few other areas as protected areas under the Wildlife Sanctuaries Act. Some of these new National Parks are Eravikulam National Park, Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, Mathikettan Shola National Park and Pambadum Shola National Park.

It is a matter of pride for India that the region of Anamalai Sub-Cluster and the Western Ghats region are being considered by the UNESCO World Heritage Commission. This region which also includes Eravikulam National Park, if declared UNESCO World Heritage site, will attract a lot of attention. This would enhance the number of tourists visiting the region.

Anamudi Shola National Park is a newly declared national park but it is already being noted by geographers for its impressive ecological balance. The national park consists of a large number of faunal and floral varieties. Zoologists also consider the reserved forests as very important for zoological and botanic discoveries. Everyone has noticed that the national park consists of some of the rarest types of plants and species which are not found anywhere else. It is the magical lush green vegetal stretch of the national park which makes it the ideal destination for nature lovers and all other explorers.

Tourists to the national park will find a number of attractive locations in the national park. Thoovanan waterfall is one such example which is very impressive. Tourists can also visit Pambadum Shola National park which falls very near to the Anamudi Shola Nationa Park. Tourists can reach the national park by road from Marayoor. Marayoor is approximately 40 kilometers away from Munnar region. Since this is a new national park, the facilities being offered in the park are constantly being improved by the concerned authorities.
