Topslip Indira Gandhi National Sanctuary

Topslip is a picturesque location in the Anamalai Hills ranges, South India. Moreover, it is a small place, which is located in the Indira Gandhi National Park and Wild Sanctuary. Indira Gandhi National Park is located in the Coimbatore district of the Tamil Nadu state, India. However, Indira Gandhi National Park lies in the Southern part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Formerly, the Indira Gandhi National park is known as Annamalai Wildlife Sanctuary. This sanctuary is surrounded in an area of near about 95860 hectares. The main tourist's zone of the Indira Gandhi National Sanctuary is the TopSlip.

The Palghat Gap on the North side separates Topslip from the Nilgiri Hills. The national park is continuous with the Parambikulam wildlife sanctuary to the west side. Towards south, the Eravikulan National park of Kerala and Chinnar WLS helps in continuation. The complex topography of topslip contributes towards the diversity in vegetation, which includes mix of natural as well as man made habitats. The vegetation includes Wet evergreen forest, semi evergreen forest, montane shola grassland, moist deciduous, dry deciduous, thorn forests and many more.

Morover, tropical evergreen forests is found at an altitude of near about 600m to 1600m. Tropical montane forests occur at the higher elevation and contain the montane grasslands, shola grassland and many more. Now, the many parts of the original evergreen forest contains teak plantation. Moreover, Bamboo and reeds also occur in the natural forests of topslip. The forest is covered with the Hopea Parviflora, Mesua ferrea, Vateria India, Cullenia excelsa, Mangnifera Indica, Machilus Macrantha, Alstonia Scholaris, Evodia Meliaefolia, Eucalyptus Grandis, Malabaricum and many more. However, the area is home to the special south Indian Species of Conifer that includes Podocarpus Wallichianus.

Top slip is the outstanding rainforest, which hold a number of south Indian Endemic birds. Here, the best-seen birds include White-bellied Treepie, Malabar Trogon, White-bellied Blue Flycatcher, Wynaad Laughingthrush, Black-throated Munia, Sri Lanka Frogmouth, and many more. The other key birds found here includes a Large population of Great hornbills, Mountain Imperial Pigeon, Indian Swiftlet, Brown-backed Needletail, Rufous Babbler, Yellow-browed Bulbul, Crimson-backed Sunbird, Greater Racket Tailed Drongo, Malabar Grey Hornbill, Red Spurfowl, Grey Jungle fowl, Malabar Parakeet, Heart-spotted Woodpecker, Oriental Bay Owl, Great Eared Nightjar, Large-billed Warbleand many more. Moreover, many of these birds can be seen on the 1 km track from the edge of Karian Shola towards the watchtower.
