Permits

You need a Restricted Area Permit for visiting Andaman Islands. This is issued at Port Blair Airport or Ferry Terminal. The permit must be presented on entering most islands, while checking into hotels and booking a ferry ticket. Permit must be surrendered while leaving the islands.

The permit allows you staying overnight in following locations- Middle Andaman Island, South Andaman Island and Little Andaman Island (excluding tribal reserves), Havelock Island, Neil Island, Long Island, Baratang, Diglipur, North Passage and islands in the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park (not including Twin Island, Boat Hobday Island, Malay Island, Tarmugli Island and Pluto Island). Staying overnight in the Park is allowed only with permission.

The permit lets you enjoy day-trips to- Ross Island, South Cinque Island, Barren Island, Brother Island, Sister Island, Narcondum Island and Interview Island (you can only see Barren Island from boat, no landing is possible there).

If you are arriving by sea, collect the permits from the immigration departments at the mainland. You can also get them from the Indian counsellate in your nation state. Special permit is necessary for both Indians and foreigners for areas like tribal reserves.
