Nagaur Fair

The popular name for Nagaur fair is cattle fair. One can experience the buying and selling of cattle in true agricultural style. It is said that over over 70,000 bullocks, camels, and horses are traded in nagaur fair very year. The fair is held 135 kms away from Jodhpur in Nagaur village.

Nagaur fair takes place between Jan - Feb every year. It continues for eight days. The main attraction of the fair is the number and type of cattle sold here. In order to attract the customers, the sellers decorate the cattle with colorful accessories. The sellers can also be seen sporting turban and big moustaches in true village style.

Apart from camels, goats, and horses, the other attractions of this Jodhpur fair are red chillies, camels, - leather accessories, wooden items, iron-crafts, and other handmade handicrafts. Nagaur is supposed to be the largest red - chilly market of India. The sellers of these goods work through out the year in preparation of this fair.

Nagaur fair is vibrating with activities like juggling, camel race, cock fight, bullock race, and puppet show.

Elephant Festival

Elephant festival is held every year on the day of Holi. The main attraction is the elephant sports organized in this fair. This fest is held in the Chaughan stadium. Elephant race, elephant polo, holi on elephant back, elephant tug-of-war, is some of the exciting events.

Gangaur Festival

Gaungaur is a festival that is celebrated by the young girls and newly married women of Rajasthan. The festival happens in the month f March. This is more a festival and less a fair. However during this festival the whole city of Jodhpur looks like a fair.

Women in colorful clothes, wearing heavy jewelry pray Goddess for their husbands and would be life-partners. The markets of Jodhpur sell colorful things used in this festival.

Gangaur is one of the most important regional festivals of Jodhpur and the whole city looks like a bride during the festival.
