West Khasi Hills District lies in the central part of the north eastern state of Meghalaya. It is located about 25 degrees 10 minutes and 25 degrees 51 minutes north latitude and between 90 degrees 44 minutes and 91 degrees 49 minutes east longitude.

History of West Khasi Hills District

West Khasi Hills District is the result of division of Khasi Hills District on 28th October, 1976. Mairang Civil sub-division was inaugurated on November 10, 1976 while the Mawkyrwat Block was converted into an administrative unit. Mawkyrwat Block was upgraded into a full-fledged sub-division on June 26, 1982. Now, West Khasi Hills District consists of three Sub-Divisions. Mawshynrut is an administrative unit which came into being on February 9, 1996. Six Community and Rural Development Blocks are comprised by it.
