Comparatively, the domestic terminus is the best in entire India and offers flights to the other cities across the country. The emergence of low cost airlines and a better income status of the people had boosted the aviation sector of the city. International tourists visit the city in great numbers and the metro people are seeking foreign holidays like never before.
Like its counterpart Mumbai, the life line of Kolkata is related to the railway tracks. The city has two main rail heads known as Howrah and Sealdah. Thousands of people travel to this city every morning to earn their livelihood in the city. Apart from the local trains joining the far flung towns and villages to the city, these two rail heads also handle long distance trains that join Kolkata with other states. Kolkata also serves as the main gateway to the states in North India.
A good number of national highways link the city with other states. The Esplanade bus station is the main terminus for all the long route buses.
