Do you know the Switzerland of India? Off course, Kotagiri! Kotagiri is one of the oldest and the largest hill station in Nilgiris. It is a small, calm and a beautiful town. This hill station is situated in the Nilgiris District, Tamil Nadu. It is located at a height of 6511 feet above the sea level. Still, this town is out of the reach of commercialization. Once, Kotagiri used to be the summer resort of the British people.

Kotagiri hill station is away from the hustle and bustle of the crowded city life. This hill station is the perfect place to visit. It offers tourists the most spectacular views of nature, which includes Kodanand View point, Longwood Shola, Rangaswamy Pillar, and Catherine Falls.

Kodanad View point: Kodanad View point is located at a height of near about 6500 feet. It is situated at near about 18km east inside the Kodanad tea estates. The kodanand viewpoint offers a breathtaking beauty to its visitors. This point includes Thengumarahada, the Bhavanisagar Dam reservoir, the tea estates and the Moyar River. The Moyar gorge is situated between the Deccan plateau and the Nilgiri plateau. Moyar gorge joins the River Bhavani across the valley. From here, one can also get the magnificent view of green-carpeted paddy fields of the Tengumarahaada village. Tengumarahaada village is surrounded on the three sides of this hill. One can enjoy the view of Rangaswamy Peak and pillar from the watchtower, which is located here. Moreover, sunset point can also be enjoyed from here. During the Monsoon season, the view is obscured because of the clouds towering into the sky.

Elk Falls : Elk Falls is situated below the Uyilatti village. It is near about 7 km from Kotagiri hill station. The water cascading down from the hill offers a most stunning and breathtaking sights. The road passes through the Badaga village. It also enroute at the Kannermukku village near the Kotagiri. In the year 1819, the first European the collector Sullivan built the house on the hills. Until today, this house stands strong but it is in a state of ruin. Rainy season is the best time to see the Elk waterfalls. Since during monsoon, the water is more powerful and nice which offers a stunning look. From this point, one can also see the valley of Kookal. Kookal is a place, which was once very famous for oranges.

Bikkapathi Reserve : Bikkapathi reserve is situated beyond the Kookalthorai. It is near about 10 kms form the Kotagiri. It is an ideal place for the trekking from the Masakal Village or the Kookalthorai. It is a very beautiful and exciting reserve, which is under the jurisdiction of the Forest Range Officer of Kattabettu, Kotagiri. For trekking, one has to take a prior permission.

Longwood Shola : Longwood Shola is also known as Dodda Shola. It is the source of pure water for the people of the Kotagiri village. Shola forest is evergreen vegetation, which is found in the Southern part of India. Well, Longwood Shola forms an important part of the delicate eco systems in this area. The micro climatic condition makes the Kotagiri as one of the ideal climatic locations.

St. Catherian's fall :Catherians Fall is near about 8 km from Kotagiri on the Mettupalyam Road. It is a double-cascaded falls, which is the second highest in the district of 250 feet. From this point, one can also view the Dolphin's Nose of Coonoor, which is across the mighty gap in the Niligiri hills. It represents a lovely view of the tea gardens, forest, and the woodlands.
