Often called the twin sister of its neighboring hill station Manali, the picturesque town of Kullu is the capital of the district of the same name in Himachal Pradesh. Kullu is connected well via a good network of train, road and air.
Kullu is served by the Kullu Manali airport situated at a distance of 10 kilometers from the valley. Frequent flights are available from Chandigarh, Delhi and Shimla. Another airport is located a bit far away around 200 kilometers away from Kullu. Called the Kangra Airport, this is situated at a place called Gaggal. Manali is also served by the Kullu Airport. Flights are operated by Indian Airlines, Jagson Airlines and Air Deccan to Kullu from Delhi and Chandigarh.
Kullu and Manali can be reached by road too. Both are connected by the NH 21 to places like Delhi, Chandigarh, Mandi and Shimla. From Delhi, Kullu can be reached via Karnal and Chandigarh. From Shimla Kullu can be reached via Tattapani, Theog, Brahmpukar and Darlaghat. Manali can be reached from Kullu and Ambala by road.
Trains also link the hill stations of Kullu and Manali. Joginder Nagar railway station is the nearest one both from Kullu and Manali. Kullu can also be reached from the Una railway station and Kiratpur railway station. Alternatively, Manali can also be reached from Chandigarh and the Ambala Cantonment station located on the broad gauge track.
