Guru Shikhar peak in Mount Abu is the highest point in Rajasthan and holds the distinction of being the highest peak of Aravali Mountain Range. The Gurushikhar peak is at an altitude of 1722 meters from the sea level. The Aravali mountain range is a green mountain range and Mount Abu provides the perfect location to visit and experience the panoramic view of the mountain range. Gurushikhar peak is a must visit place for any tourist in Rajasthan. The town of Mount Abu is a very well known place in Rajasthan and is home to a number of ancient temples. Most of these temples are located at the site of Gurushikhar peak.

Gurushikhar peak is also considered to be a holy place in the region because of the temples which are considered to be holy. The temple of Guru Dattatreya is the attraction of Gurushikhar peak. Dattreya is a God worshipped by many western Indians believing Dattatreay to be one of the ten incarnations of the lord. He is an incarnation of the Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. There is a history behind this temple. The God whose name is Dattatreya was the son of a sage couple Atri and Anasuya. The name Datta which means "Given" originates from here. And since Datta was the son of Atri and Anasuya, the name Dattatreya was given to him. There is another shrine dedicated to the mother of Dattatreya, which is situated north-west of the Guru Shikhar peak. The footprints of Guru Dattatreya are sanctified in a rock which is located in the cave.

Another attraction of the place is a huge historic bell which is suspended from a wood. The toll of the bell could be heard up to a long distance. This place also has footprints of Swami Ramanath which are situated in the temple.

Reaching to the Gurushikhar peak is not very difficult. Traveling from Delwara Achal Garch road, this peak is nearly 7 kilometers away. And if a person is already going to Mount Abu, he should not miss the opportunity to visit the Gurushikhar peak and the temple which holds an historic importance. The trek to the peak is not a difficult one and people can climb to the top with least efforts.
