Mudumalai wild life sanctuary is the continuation of the Bandipur National Park. The Moyar River flows along the border of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, which separates the two states. However, Ooty and Mysore highway runs through this park. Wildlife sanctuary of Mudumalai is being situated in an area of near about 321 sq. km in the Tamil Nadu state. Mudumalai Wild life sanctuary is situated in the northern and northwestern side of the Nilgiris. It is situated at a distance of near about 80 kms of Coimbatore of Tamil Nadu state.
Mudumalai wildlife sanctuary is in the continuation of the Bandipur Wildlife reserve. However, Mudumalai wildlife reserve was the first wildlife sanctuary in South India. In spite of its location in the Nilgirs, climate of Mudumalai wildlife sanctuary is different as compared to near by region. The western side of Mudumalai wildlife sanctuary receives more amount of rainfall than that of the eastern side during the period of southwestern monsoon.
