Murud-Janjira is located about 60 kms from Alibaug. Murud -Janjira is actually a small place situated on a hill top along the shores of Arabic sea. Murud-Janjira is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Maharashtra. People all over the place come here to experience the beautiful sea, Natural beauty of the Konkan and visit other tourist spots nearby.

How To Reach Murud Janjira

There is a fort here which has a lot of historic significance. The fort of Janjira is about 300 years old and is believed to be constructed in the 15th century. There is enough evidence that the Janjira fort was built by the rulers of Ahmednagar. The fort is about 2 kms into the sea and it is fun to visit it. You need to travel by boat to enter the Janjira fort. Another important feature of this fort is that enemy never conquered it. There are some very fine architectural specimens inside the fort and you can find some old guns there.

Other important thing why people prefer coming here is the religious places here. There are many important temples in Murud- Janjira. There is a shrine of lord Dattatreya near the fort of Janjira. There is another temple, the Birla temple in the vicinity of this place.

Murud is very popular amongst the tourists for its beaches. The sand is white and the beaches are very clean, the best part is, since the place is not very commercially developed, you can enjoy the waters and the beach peacefully. There are other beaches like Kashid and Nandgaon a few kilometers away from the fort area. There are the Janjira caves and a palace of the Nawab which are worth visiting.

How to reach Murud-Janjira is not a big problem. You can reach here by taking a bus from Mumbai or Pune. There are regular buses from Swargate to Murud. You can reach Murud from Mumbai via Alibaug-Revdanda-Kashid route. You can also take the route from Roha. You can take a state transport bus or take a private bus to Murud.

You can travel by a private car or Taxi from Pune and take the Pune-Paud-Mulshi-Kolad-Roha road and reach Murud. This road is very fun filled and you can enjoy nature and scenic beauty while you are traveling. This road is full of dense trees and there are various ghats on the way. Alternatively, you can take the Pune- Expressway_Khalapur-Pen_Alibaug-Kashid route and reach Murud. The beauty of this route is, you get to travel on the road by the sea and enjoy the route from Kashid onwards.

You can also take a catamaran from Mumbai, gateway of India to Mandwa. You can then take a free bus to Alibaug and one more bus to Murud. You can ferry to Rewas from Mumbai and then take a bus via Alibaug. This route is fun filled and it will be an experience in itself to travel to Murud in this manner.

You can take a ferry to Roha and then travel further to Murud if you want to travel by Train. Roha railway station is the nearest railhead to Murud-Janjira.
