    The formal inauguration of the garden or the zoo of Mysore was done in the year 1892. As this king of the Wodeyar dynasty was a great lover of animals and nature, he hired one of the well known German landscaper to develop this place. Initially he sanctioned a land of around 10 acres to develop a land of lush greenery and wild life. The landscaper worked tremendously upon it. Aesthetically built enclosures and soothing scenery of th gardens was indeed eye catching. Later, with the entry of Mr. Huge, a zoo superintend of Australia, the area of the zoo was increased to around 45 acres. Now it was a place which was accessible to public. It was by then regarded as the best zoo of the nation. Later on, the zoo was further expanded and was renamed as Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Garden. Today, the Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens sprawl in an area of about 250 acres.
