    Aurangabad is the most visited tourist place in Maharashtra. The city is named after Aurangazeb who established it in 1633. the city is emerging as an industrial center with silk and Himroo fabrics as the major industry products. There are a number of places of tourist attractions in Aurangabad.

    About Aurangabad

    Panchakki or the water mill is the major place of attraction. The water mill is an engineering marvel. The mill is driven by the water brought from 6 kms away in earthen pipes. There is a shrine of Baba Shah Muzaffar nearby Who was the spiritual guru of Aurangzeb.

    Bibi Ka Makbara is the tomb of Begum Rabia-ud-Durani. She was the wife of Aurangzeb and this monument was built in her honor. This structure has a lot of resemblance to the Taj Mahal from Agra. Hence, it is also called as Poor Man’s Taj Mahal. The monument is an excellent example of Persian architecture and is in excellent condition.

    Himroo factories are siuated in the old town of Aurangabad. These produce hand woven Himroo shawls and fabric. These are prepared from cotton, silk and silver threads. This art is also popularly known as Kam Khab. This thing is taken as a cheaper version and substitute to the prized brocades of silk and gold threads.

    Aurangabad caves are located at a distance of 5 kms from the city. These caves are situated amidst the hills and date back to 3AD. These caves show Tantrik influence evident from the iconography and Architectural designs.

    The caves of Ajanta and Ellora are the world famous structures. These are so famous that people from all over the world come to Aurangabad to see them.

    Quila-E-Ark is another popular tourist spot in Aurangabad. It has a nagarkhana for the musicians and five gateways. There are remains of extensive garden and half ruined tanks. The Darbar hall and the Jama masjid.

    Aurangabad ruins are the most conspicuous ruins of palace of Asaf Jah and Qila Ark. Malik Ambar established himself here and built many mosques and buildings. He built Naukonda palace in 1616.
