What to see in Bharatpur
The Bharatpur bird sanctuary is listed among the UNESCO world heritage sites. The most important attraction in Bharatpur is the Keoladeo National Park named after lord Shiva. It is a paradise for bird lovers and you can find more than 375 species of birds. The other major attraction here is butterflies. There are about 35 species of butterflies and you can visit this park during monsoons as well as winter season. You can hire a cycle and tour the place or take a cycle-rickshaw. The rickshawalas are very knowledgeable about the various bird species and can give you a running commentary when you are touring the place.

Bharatpur palace is a fusion of Mughal and Rajput art and now has a museum. Ganga mandir was built in the 18th century and each person employed in the services of the state was asked to donate a month's salary to construct it. Laxman mandir has beautiful stonework with carvings in doors, pillars and arches.
Deegh has many palaces that are in excellent conditions and are worth a visit. There is unique and beautiful furnishing in these palaces and there are well-planned Mughal gardens with calm pools and fountains. There are richly ornamented and carved cornices, pavilions and attics in the palaces.

You can take home some of the typical Indian souvenirs and curios. If you are a hard-core shopper, you can shop at Jaipur, which is very near to Bharatpur. You can buy some ethnic jewelry and textile items. The most beautiful things for shopping are the lac bangles and jewelry laiden with colorful precious and semi-precious stones.
