About Jhalawar
Jhalawar is a city in the Jhalawar district of the state of Rajasthan. It was known as Brijnagar in the olden days. Today, the main town of Jhalawar it is known as Patan or Jhalrapatan. It was founded by the side of an artificial lake by Zalim Singh in 1796.

Jhalawar has rich historic as well as natural wealth. If you are a nature lover, Jhalawar is a place for you. Jhalawar lies on the south eastern region of Rajasthan state at the edge of the malwa plateau. It has a rocky and water laden verdant landscape. There are some very beautiful pre-historic cave paintings, massive forts, thickly wooded forest which is a home to a variety of exotic wildlife. You can spot countless species of birds as you drive by the lush countryside and you can also enjoy the red poppy fields and orange laden orchards.
The Kartik fair also called as the Chandrabhaga fair is the the hot attraction of the region. An extensive and elegant ruin near the town is worth a look and the finest feature of this is the remains of a temple of Sitaleshwar Mahadeva.
The Jhalawar fort is located in the heart of the city. It has some very beautiful mirror works and frescos on the walls of the zenana khas or the women's quarters.
The Buddhist caves at Kolvi are a must visit on the tours to Jhalawar. These are said to date back to the age of Ashoka, the Maurian emperor. There is a massive statue of Buddha that is very beautiful. The caves are carved out of single rocks and have rectangular doorways that lead to the dark interiors where there are images of Buddha displayed.
