    Kota in Rajasthan is a place with a lot of historic importance. The magnificent cultural heritage is quiet evident through its beautiful palaces, temples and museums. City fort palace Kota is key tourist attraction. Kota fort has rugged ramparts and bastions and it is adorned with delicate domes as well as balustrades. The durbar hall has beautiful mirror work and ebony doors. Hati pol is a beautiful entrance to the fort which was constructed in the 17th century. The fort has a rich collection of art and artifacts and some of the chambers in the fort have elaborate paintings. There is a beautiful collection of stone idols in the Raj Mahal (palace) of Kota. The walls are embellished with gold stained glass work, silver mirror work on ceilings and marvelous paintings on the wall.

    Jagmandir Palace, Kota

    Jagmandir Palace is located on a small island in the Kishore Sagar Lake. This lake is an artificial lake and was constructed by Prince Dhee Deh of Bundi in 1346. It was built in 1740 by the queen of Kota. The Kota palace is marvelous and is a visual delight. You can enjoy boating in the clear blue waters and visit the enchanting Jagmandir in the middle of the lake.

    Kansua Temple, Kota

    The Kansua temple has a rare four-faced shivlinga. Other places worth visiting are the Mathuradeesh temple, Adhar shila, Traffic Park and Budh Singh Bafna haveli.

    Maharao Madho Singh Museum

    To preserve the cultural heritage of the city a number of places are converted into museums. Maharao Madho Singh Museum is one of the best museums in the state of Rajasthan. There are exquite sculptures, beautiful frescos and murals in the museum. There is an amazing armory section which displays a variety of arms like swords, bows and arrows, knives, pistols, rifles and other things. The museum also displays some of the things belonged to and used by the rulers of Kota.

    The most important thing and the main attractions of the Maharao Madho Singh Museum at Kota is the huge collection of paintings. These paintings are miniatures and belong to the Kota school of Art. The museum is the place where the royal family once lived. The name of the museum id derived from the name of the prince Maharao Madho Singh. Jehangir declared him as the first ruler of Kota. The museum is closed for visitors on Fridays and other public holidays.

    Kota Government Museum

    Kota Government Museum is situated in the Brijvilas Palace near the Lake Kishor Sagar. This museum as the Maharao Madho Singh Museum portrays the rich cultural heritage of the place. The museum has a rich collection of sculptures, rare coins, Hatodi sculptures and old manuscripts. The most remarkable item on display in the museum is the sculpture brought from Baroli. This is a beautiful statue and is exquisitely carved and has a lot of historical importance.

    This museum is open to the public from 10:00 Am to 5 PM and the entrance fees are a nominal Rs 2. The museum is closed on Fridays and other government holidays. Photography is strictly prohibited but you can take permission from the Director of Archaeology and Museums, Jaipur.
