    Kota formerly known as Kotah is a city in Rajasthan state. It is situated on the banks of the Chambal River and is a trade center of the surrounding area. The historical temples and palaces are getting surrounded by the modern developments of factories and other industries. Chambal river valley project is an irrigation and power project that has come up here.

    The city was founded in the 12th century A.D and became the capital of the princely state of Bundi. It became a separate state in the 17th century. Kota is very famous for its distinctive style of paintings and the vibrant education center which prepares the students for the countries elite engineering and medical colleges. The Crosthwaite Institute in Kota is as old as the palaces of Maharao.

    The prominent tourist attractions in Kota are the historical places and the museum. It has an excellent collection of Rajput miniature paintings, frescoes, exquisite sculptures and armory. There is a beautiful Jag Mandir located in the middle of an artificial lake, Kishor Sagar Lake. It is built in red sandstone and is an excellent structure that dates back to the 14th century. Besides boating in this lake, you can visit the Kesar Bagh, which is very famous for its cenotaphs. You should visit Devata Shirdharji as it has splendid frescoes and lovely paintings on the walls of the beautifully designed rooms.
