About Pandharpur
Pandharpur is a very important place of pilgrimage of the Hindus. It is situated on the banks of the river Bhima in Solapur district in the state of Maharashtra. The vitthal mandir is visited by millions of devotees from all over the world.

Pandharpur is also called as the city of temples as there a lot of temples in the city. There are about 25 temples belonging to various deities in the same premises. There are various temples like Ganesh mandir, Garud mandir, Ekmukhi Dattatraya, Satyabhama and many more.
The main temple is the Vitthal Rukmini temple. This temple has six gates from which you can enter the temple. The temple is fortified from all sides and is spread over a vast area. The temple has six gates and the entrance has a beautiful Ganesh idol at the right side. At the left side, there is a golden and silver pillar. This is called as the Garud stambha, the vehicle of lord Vishnu.
This is the only temple in the whole country where you can touch the enter the sanctum sanctorum and can touch the deity. There is no barrier of any caste or creed and all the devotees are treated equally.
The river Bhima is called as Chandrabhaga in Pandharpur as it flows in the half moon crescentic circle here. People come here to experience the serene atmosphere and take a dip into the river Chandrabhaga. The holy dip gives immense pleasure and peace of mind. The most important celebration is the celebration at Ashadi and Kartiki ekadashi. This is very famous as the Pandharpur Yatra. The palanquins of various saints come together at the wakhri some five kms away from Pandharpur. People walk the entire distance from their place (hometown) to the temple and abode of Lord Vitthal.
Vishnupad Is a small square shaped platform on the banks of chandrabhaga. This temple houses the footprints of Lord Vitthal.
Gopalpur is around 2-3 kms from Pandharpur. This place has residence of sant Namdeo and sant Janabai who was a domestic help in Namdeos house. As the legend goes, she was helped by lord himself in her daily chores.
There is a Dattatreya temple in the same premises. There are small swayambhu lingam that symbolizes Lord Bhrama, Vishnu and Mahesh. The idol of Lord Dattatreya is situated just outside the lingams. There is an old tree behind the idol.
You can visit Gangapur, Akkalkot, Solapur and Tuljapur from pandharpur. These places are very good for exploration.
