By Plane : There is no airport in Rishikesh. The nearest airport is about 35 km away at Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, the capital city of Uttaranchal. It is a newly constructed & recently renovated airport handling just few flights from Delhi. Indian airlines connect Dehradun to Delhi airport. Few chartered planes also operate here. Taxi services are available from Jolly Grant airport to Rishikesh & costs about Rs 300. Delhi airport is about 224 km away from Rishikesh.

By Train :Rishikesh has a railway station but it is mainly connected to Haridwar; Haridwar is well connected with other major cities through railways. There are trains from Dehradun, Mussorie, Nainital and Delhi etc. A quiet branch line connects Rishikesh to Haridwar, but there are only 3 passenger trains daily. The fares are really low (Rs 4 only) and they are usually on time but the travel time is approximately 1 hour. Timings for these passenger trains are- 05:20, 10:30 and at 17:25 hours. It's better to take the train to Haridwar & continue by bus which takes around 45 min & charge you Rs 20. One can also opt for a taxi which costs around Rs 500 but takes only half an hour. From Delhi there are many trains to Haridwar; the best ones are- Jan Shatabdi, Dehradun Shatabdi Express, Mussorie Express and AC Special Express. The Doon Express connect Kolkata and Allahabad to Haridwar. To reach various destinations within the city, one can opt for 'Vikrams', tongas, taxis or auto rickshaws which are easily available from Rishikesh station.

By Bus :Rishikesh is about 230 km away from Delhi & is well connected with buses. From other states & cities, buses are operated by state transport corporations and private operators. A bus journey takes about 6-7 hours depending on the traffic conditions. A bus journey costs around Rs130-500 depending on the type of bus- normal, semi-deluxe, deluxe, A/C etc. Rishikesh has two bus stands- UP roadways bus stand Yatra bus stand. There are several travel agencies located within the city especially at Swargashram & Lakshman Jhula which may help you in touring around the city as well as if you want to travel to any other city. Its better to opt for travel agents to plan any further journey rather than going to Haridwar or Rishikesh station. There is one more station named Raiwala, a small stop between Rishikesh and Haridwar but this station is closer but tiny and trains stop here for a few seconds only.
