    Shekhwati

The area of Shekhwati encompasses the area of several villages and towns in the northeastern parts of Rajasthan state. Shekhwati literally means land of Shekhwat rulers. It was founded by Rao Shekha, who came to power at the age of 12. The people of Shekhwati are considered very brave, sacrificing and hardworking. Shekhwati provides the highest number of persons to the Army and hence it is known as the 'Scotland of India'.

Another very interesting thing about the place is its exquisite frescoes which are popularly known as the open art galleries. This is the largest collection of frescoes in the world and people all over the world come here to admire them. The landscape here is totally bare, flat and colorless, but the culture makes this place vibrant and interesting.

The villages of Shekhwati have kept their rustic charm intact and you can drive along these painted towns and get a wonderful experience. You can also see the unique architectural style of the havelis. You will just marvel at the magical designs and the four pillared wells, temples and step wells when you reach there.

The havelis in Shekhwati are very beautiful and consist of several courtyards. These havelis are exquisitely latticed, carved and most of them have mirror work and mural work. Some of the havelis adorn beautiful paintings on the walls.

Dundlod is situated in the heart of the city and the fort here dates back to the 17th century. The fort has typical Rajputana style that consists of spacious rooms, minarets, flower motifs and paintings.

Sikar has a clock tower and the painted Biyani, Murarka and Somani havelis. The Jain temple and these havelis deserve a visit.
