Purjan Vihar in Alwar
Alwar is a beautiful place in Rajasthan state. The temperatures in summer soar to 40 oC and it drop down to 4 oC during winters. There is a place in Alwar which is not affected by this extreme climate. This is the Purjan Vihar or the Company garden as it is famously known. This garden was laid out during the rule of Maharaja Shiv Dan Singh in 1868. The garden was originally named as company garden later on the name was changed to Purjan Vihar by Maharaja Jai Singh.

This purjan vihar is situated just near the palace. The garden has splendid foliage and beautiful trees. It is a wonder to see such lush greenery situated in the middle of the sandy desert of the country.
Apart from the splendid foliage, the garden has outstanding formation famously called as the Shimla House. This is a large vaulted structure was built by maharaja Mangal Singh the idea behind this was to prevent the blazing sun from peeping in the garden. It was a summerhouse build to escape the soaring desert temperatures. There are beautiful pathways laid out and you can enjoy the natural beauty and the luxuriant vegetation while you walk.
This is an ideal picnic spot during summers and you can enjoy the cool shades that give you quite a reprieve. There is no entry fee to the garden and it is open from 9 am to 5 pm.
