Chennai is well known for its hospitality and innumerable tourist destinations. With a close proximity to the Bay of Bengal, the beaches are the prime attractions in Chennai. Important parts in the life of the locals, these beaches are the main centers of fun, frolic and entertainment. Well known among which are the Elliots Beach or the Besant Nagar Beach and the Marina Beach. One beach that surely catches the attention is the Marina Beach. With a length of 13 kilometers, this is one of the longest beaches in the world. Isolated in beauty is the Breezy beach which is ideally located in the calm locality of Valmiki Nagar.

Other famous landmarks around the city consists of the Connemara Library, Ennore Foundaries and Ennore Port, St. Thomas Mount, National Shrine of St. Thomas Basilica, Integral Coach Factory belonging to the Indian Railways, Valluvar Kottam which is an auditorium dedicated to the poet Thiruvalluvar, Fort St. George which houses the Legislative Parliament of Tamil Nadu and the Secretariat and was built in the year 1653 and National Art Gallery or the Government Museum situated on the Pantheon Road.

One of its own kinds, Chennai boasts of a national park within its geographical limits. The Guindy National Park and the adjacent Guindy Snake Park are great tourist attractions in Chennai.

Chennai is equally notable for its numerous magnificent temples and Churches. Belonging to ages back in time, these temples and churches are well known for their architectures and are important relics of Indian heritage and culture. Among the temples the well known ones are Ashtalakshmi Temple, Aarupadaiveedu Temple, Guruvayurappan Temple, Ananthaa Padmanabha Swaamy Temple, Iskcon Temple, Kaaraneeswarar Temple, Kapaleeshwara Temple, Kaalikaambaal Temple, Marundeeshwar Temple, Madhya Kailash Temple, Periaapaalayath Amman Temple, Ragavendhra Temple, Ratnagirishwarar Temple, Shiva Vishnu Temple, Shirdi Sai Temple, Thirumalai Thirupathi Devasthanam Temple, Varasidi Vinayakar Temple and Vadapalani Murugan Temple.

The presence of a number of Churches adds glory to the religious picture of Chennai. There is the CSI Church House of Prayer, Annai Velankani Church, CSI Wesley Church, St. Thomas Orthodox Cathedral, St. Peters and St. Paul Orthodox Chapel and Santhome Cathedral Basilica. Built in 1680, the Mary’s Church is the oldest Anglican Church in the country.

The Qurasani Mosque and the Thousand Lights Mosque are the added attractions in Chennai.
