Gwalior falls under the Allahabad Division of Indian Railways and is one of the chief commercial railway stations belonging to the North Central Railway. Gwalior is served by three railway stations and it is one of the few places in India where the broad gauge and narrow gauge tracks are still in operation. Train services not only link Gwalior to the four metropolitan cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai, but direct trains are also available to Ahmedabad, Trivandrum, Pune, Jaipur, Indore, Jammu, Bhopal, Nagpur, Lucknow, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chandigarh. The main station handling the long distance trains is Gwalior. Within city limits, two other stations namely Sithouli and Birla Nagar interconnect the other stations and handle the short distance trains which link the rural areas and towns to the main city of Gwalior.
Goshipura and Motijheel are the respective narrow gauge stations in Gwalior. As a station on the gauge line, Gwalior has tremendous importance. In India, the longest functional broad gauge line runs between Mumbai and Delhi. Trains like Shatabdi Express and Rajdhani Express make halts at Gwalior.
Gwalior is well connected to other places through a good network of roads. There are a number of National Highways and State Highways. NH3, also known as the Agra Bombay National Highway connects Gwalior to Agra and Shivpuri respectively. National highway number 75 connects Gwalior to Jhansi on the southern side. Towards the north, Mathura is connected to Gwalior by NH3. Frequent bus services are available to small and big cities nearby Gwalior which includes Morena, Datia, Jaipur, Indore, Jabalpur, Bhind, Bhopal, Agra and Delhi.
