The beauty of Idukki is something to be experienced in person. A distinct and quite a large district in Kerala, Idukki has the blessings of Nature and in the real sense of the term. Cloud covered mountains, streams and rivulets and dense green forests many of which are cordoned off to form wildlife sanctuaries and national parks makes Idukki rich in diversity. Formed in the year 1972, Idukki has undergone a lot of changes but keeping the natural beauty intact. One of the prime districts in Kerala and rich in natural resources, Idukki is home to three main rivers namely Thalayar, Periyar and Thodupuzhayar.

Reaching this place in Kerala is convenient provided you are travelling by road. Options for air travel or rail travel is not available for Idukki. Idukki is served by National and State Highways. So if you are travelling by road, you have to follow either the National Highway number 49 or the State highways 33 and 13 to reach Idukki.

Idukki however can be reached from various other places where air and rail services are available. Tourists travelling by train can reach Idukki from Kottayam, Ernakulam, Madurai, Theni and Chenganachery. These are the nearby railway heads to Idukki.

However, if you are keen on availing a flight, then you can reach Idukki from Thiruvananthapuram, Madurai, Chennai, Nedumbasseri and Kozhikode.
