The gateway to the scenic Wayanad district in Kerala, Lakkidi offers plenty of sightseeing opportunities to the visiting tourist apart from nature walks and trekking expeditions. Dominated by tropical evergreen rainforests and lofty hill sides, Lakkidi is Nature’s own child. Lakkidi also happens to be the point from where you can explore all the other prime attractions of the Wayanad district.

The Pookote Lake with its beauty immediately catches the attention of the visitors. This lake is one of the famous spots developed primarily for the purpose of recreation. Boating facilities, shops to collect souvenirs and spices of Kerala can be found on location. The children’s park and the fresh water aquarium are the added attractions.

The Edakkal Caves are the site of great archaeological findings. Situated 27 kilometers away from Lakkidi, these are a must visit.

Waterfalls can be found in plenty and two of them primarily the Meenmutty Falls and the Soojipara Falls deserves a special mention. With a drop of 300 meters the Meenmutty Falls is known to be the largest in Wayanad.

The hilly terrains and the dense evergreen forests are the best haunts of nature lovers and trekkers. Home to a wide species of wildlife, the dense forests have been demarcated to form some of the best wildlife sanctuaries and national parks in Kerala. Pay a visit to the Tholpetty Wildlife Park and Muthanga Wildlife Park. For a meeting with the feather friends, Pakshipathalam is a great place. The Nagarhole National Park may be a bit far without this, the trip might seem incomplete.

Other attractions include a visit to the Banasura Sagar Dam, Thirunelly temple and Kuruva Islands which is a collection of three islands in River Kabani.
