The easiest way to reach the Blue Mountains is from Ooty and Coonoor, two other hill stations of the Nilgiri Hills. Direct flights are available to Coimbatore from Mumbai and Chennai. From Coimbatore airport, Ooty can be reached by hiring a car. Ooty or Udhagamandalam can also be reached from the IT hub, Bangalore. Flights to Coimbatore are also available from Cochin and Trivandrum.

Tourists opting for a train journey can avail the Nilgiri Express which connects Chennai and a place called Mettupalayam. A train operated by the Nilgiri Mountain Railway connects Mettupalayam and Ooty.

Ooty can be reached by road also but then tourists have to follow the Coimbatore Mettupalayam Coonoor Ooty Road to reach Ooty. Regular buses are available between Trichy, Bangalore, Kanyakumari, Tirupati, Calicut, Mysore and Madurai.
