The beauty of the Pushkar Lake is something which cannot be described in words and it is around this lake that the annual extravaganza takes place. Held on the auspicious day of Kartik Purnima in the English months of October or November, the Pushkar Fair is the largest cattle fair in the country. Also known by the name of Pushkar Camel Fair, the main attraction of this fair are the camel races, puppet shows and numerous other odd competitions. Livestock trading gets a boost in this fair and stalls are put up from where tourists can shop for colorful fabrics, jewelleries, handicrafts items to their hearts content. A camel race generally marks the beginning of the fair.
Among the temples, it is the Temple of the Lord Brahma that deserves a special mention. The temple is located at the end of the Sadar Bazaar. Notable from a distance due to the red spire and the statue of a swan over the entrance gate, this temple is a famous landmark of this town. The Savitri Temple, which is dedicated to the consort of Lord Brahma is situated on a hill behind this primary temple and is an equally important temple to visit.
Another temple that catches the attention of every passer by is the Rangaji Temple. The numerous carved images adorning the massive 'gopuram' of the temple is the striking feature other than the south Indian style of architecture. Other temples in Pushkar are dedicated to Badri Narayan, Varaha, Gayatri and Apteshwar Mahadev.
