Legend behind the name 'Ryali'
According to the Telugu language, the meaning of Ryali is fall. Bhagvatam says that it was lord Vishnu in the guise of Mohini who rescues the innocent Devatas against the cruel Rakshasas at the time of Samudra Manthan. In the Samudra Manthn Amruta the holy divine nectar was also found. This potion was divided equally among the Rakshasas and Devatas. This was the time when Lord Vishnu in guise of Mohini supported the Devatas. On this occasion, Lord Eshwara known as Lord Shiva falls for Mohini. The fact that Mohini is just a guise of lord Vishnu is disclosed to Lord Shiva when he sees a flower that falls from the plait of Mohini.
