Sariska in Rajasthan is well known for wildlife sanctuary. It also has a lot of historical significance and is mentioned in many religious and ancient texts. There are a number of temples in this region that symbolizes the rich culture if the place.

What to see in Sariska

You can visit the Pandupol situated 24 kms form Sariska. As the legend goes, the pandava brothers founded it as a good hiding place in the 13th century. This has given the place a lot of significance and historical importance and hence many people visit it en route to the national park. This place is a natural arch engraved in limestone because of the action of water on limestone.

On the outskirts of the Sariska sanctuary there are breathtaking views of the ruins of the Bhangarh. This city was founded by Madho Singh, young brother of Man Singh ho was emperor Akbars famous general.

Other places worth visiting are Kankawadi and Neelkanth as they have a picturesque fortress overlooking the lake. Emperor Aurangazeb built Kankawadi fort and he kept his brother as a prisoner inside the fort.

Talbraksha is another place you can visit and take a dip in the sulphur springs adjacent to the temples.

The Hanuman temple is a place with a lot of cultural and religious significance. This temple is situated near the watchtower and is covered with dense foliage that creates a mysterious ambience. There is a huge statue of lord Hanuman that goes back to the days of Mahabharata. There are many monkeys in this area and it is very interesting to watch them.

Located in the Aravalli ranges, the Sariska wildlife sanctuary is a heavenly treat for the nature lovers. The wildlife is a Tiger reserve and the unique feature of these tigers is that they are nocturnal and cannot be spotted like the ones in Ranthambore. There are other rare animals like the porcupine, striped hyena, Sambar, chital and others to name a few. There are different rare species of birds that can be seen in the park. The trees hare are deciduous and dry and mainly include Dhak, Acacia, Ber and Salar.
