Shekhawati is a semi desert region in northern Rajasthan. It is situated entirely within the triangle formed by Delhi-Bikaner-Jaipur. Shekhawati represents an entire region not only just a town. Dundlod is a small village that is located about 140 miles west of Delhi in a semi arid region of Rajasthan. It lies in the heart of the shekhawati region about 7 km away from Nawalgarh. In 1750, dundlod fort was built by Keshri Singh. After the Dundlod fort was established, war broke out with other kingdoms and the land was lost by Keshri Singh. In the 1800's, Sheo Singh took back his ancestor's land and settled in Dundlod and also enlarged the fort. Most of the building in the dundlod fort date from 1840.

Dundlord fort is a blend of the Rajput and Mughal schools art and architecture. Dundlod fort has a well-preserved hall of audience and traces of painted murals in some of the rooms. The Diwan-e-khas has stained glass windows, impressive library and fine antiques. The 'zenana' quarters are on the first floor featuring decor and furniture. The Dundlod fort has been converted into a cosy and comfortable abode. Here, the dress code and the royal hospitality are accorded to visitors as well guest.

The dome of chattari is encircled by frieze showing Lord Krishna dancing with the 'gopis', interspersed with peacocks and musicians. The paintings around the inner base even shows war panorama of the Mahabharata. The Mal Goenka Haveli is a fine example of mirror work on the windows of the upper walls of courtyard. The notable paintings are delicately preserved in round frames.

At the Dundlod fort, Shekhwati, the Goenka Haveli is a worth visit for its beautiful frescoes, fine mirror work, feature of florets and birds in the outer courtyard. In addition, there are other better-preserved painting in a few other havelis and chatters. A peep into the village on a camel safari is a quite interesting. Fine breeding of the horses has been the passion of the royals and still the tradition continues. These studs are available for riding and horse safaris in shekhawati. The Satyanarayan Temple built by the Goenka Family is worth a visit. On the wall of the temple, there is a huge fresco with modern trappings showing British men and women on bicycles and cars. In addition, it shows a long train with a backdrop of telegraph wires. A painting under the roof in the upper space shows nobles at leisure while smelling flowers or reading books. Other painting shows a turbaned man holding a bird while another portrays a woman admiring herself against a mirror.
