    Historical past of Tiruchanur Padmavati Temple

    According to an inscription which narrates the history of Padmavati temple, it is evident that originally, Tiruchanur Padmavati Temple was built in dedication to Lord Venkateswara. Unfortunately the space within the temple was not sufficient for the priests to perform the rituals associated to lord Venkateswara. Now a different place was selected by these priests to perform important rituals before for Lord Venkateswara. Later on, the entire temple was shifted and the place had no significance at all. Later on, somewhere in the 12th century, this place regained its importance under the rule of the Yadavas. In the period of the Yadavas, the establishment of Sri Krishna Balrama Temple was done here. During the 16th and 17th century, further additions were made in this temple which added deity Sundara Varadaraja in this temple while a separate temple was built in dedication of Goddess Padmavati. So, finally this was the temple which was dedicated to lord Padmavati who was supposed to be born in a lotus pond.
