    It is from late May to end of August, if you want to see flowers and if you are interested in trekking then go from October to April.

    Trekking Dzukou Valley and Japfu Peak

    1. Day 1
    2. Kohima-Dzukou Trekker's Hut

    From Kohima catch NH39 to Zakhama Check Post. From here, move on to reach Crying Child Valley. The name is so because tragopan pheasant inhabits this area who cries like a child. As you move ahead, you will come across a 2,550 m high but nameless pass. It gives a 360 degree view into the Dzukou Valley. From here on, you are in a dwarf bamboo forest. Carry on the trail skirting below the ridge, sloping down and crossing a small stream and you are at the Dzukou Trekker's hut.

    Camp at the Trekker's Hut and explore the wide and vibrant valley's beauty. Walk on to visit Ghost Cave/Bhoot Gufa (known locally).

    2. Dzukou Valley-Vishwema Village

    Retrace your steps and catch the right side which was earlier left while coming from Zakhama.It goes along the left side ridges of the valley. After sometime you reach a pass on the ridge. From here you can catch the sight of the highway to Imphal and Vishwema village. At this point you exit the Dzukou Valley.

    Follow the water pipe line which you came across on the pass. Slope down following it and you'll reach the trail meeting a road marked 'Trekker's Point'. From here, if you have arrangements to pick you up, well and good or else walk on to reach the NH61 at Vishwema village. Spend this night in the community hall of the village.

    2. Vishwema Village-Japfu Peak Base

    From the village, move on main road heading north-west. The road leads you to the Peak's base. The path skirts around the ridge and gradually ascends. There is a good camping site at the base which is marked by 'Japfu Peak' signboard.

    2. Japfu Peak Base Camp-Japfu Peak

    Set out at an early hour of the morning to catch sunrise views from the highest point of the peak. The trail leads through thick forest and the climb is steep. The last 150 m stretch opens out above the tree line. It ascends to the peak. From the Japfu Peak, you can see a vast spread of valleys, hills and villages. From here half of Nagaland is visible except villages on Arunachal side and Dibrugarh in Assam. Retrace your way back on the trail, return to Vishwema Village and head on to Kohima.
